What do I offer my clients and what can you expect?
Compassion is a major factor in your experience. Along with empathy, you will find active listening, thoughtful therapeutic questions, and the feeling of being seen and heard. Though making changes takes time, I believe you already have all the capabilities needed.
Theories I use: I incorporate aspects of Person Centered, Cognitive Behavioral, Acceptance Commitment, and Internal Family Systems.
My Approach:
ENCOURAGING AUTHENTICITY (living true to yourself and practicing genuine self-expression)
CHILDHOOD & LIFE EXPERIENCES (where and how you learned and created habits)
ATTACHMENT (or relational styles, how you expect people to react to you, and how you react to them)
SELF & OTHER-AWARENESS (how well you understand yourself and others, learning about different parts of you)
STRENGTHS (how were you able to make it this far)
SKILLS & INTERVENTIONS (evidenced based therapies, and tools you can try using on your own)
FAMILIAL, SOCIAL, & CULTURAL FACTORS (how society and culture affect your life)
Special Interests
In addition to these interests, I assist with a variety of needs, including, but not limited to;
depression, anxiety, stress, grief, loss, self-esteem, domestic violence survivors, burnout, career counseling or career issues, and life transitions
Trauma is an emotional consequence from a distressing event. Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is the lingering Symptoms and consequences of trauma, and can vary from person to person. I have a particular interest in working through childhood and religious trauma, along with complex PTSD.
I enjoy utilizing creative modalities in the therapy room for those open to expressing themselves through art. This is also a great tool to use when we aren't sure what words to use, or simply need to practice mindfulness and relaxation in session.
I have worked with women on a wide variety of concerns, from domestic violence, to marital issues. Women face unique challenges in life and have quite the contradictory list of expectations. I offer a safe and nurturing approach while also working towards increasing accountability, self-empathy, and empowering you to fulfill your goals while living authentically.
I work to build a relationship with my teens in order to provide a safe and accepting space to grow, question, and learn. Teens face intimidating challenges for the first time, while navigating many mixed messages. Teens deserve to be heard. It is our responsibility to offer non-judgmental spaces for teens to seek help.
Children can't "talk it out" like adults, but they can "talk" through play. I use Child Centered Play therapy to allow children to express themselves. Play techniques and responses are carefully chosen to encourage emotional growth, and to help the child process their feelings. While I am not a registered play therapist, I have taken a course in the approach used. For adolescents, games and projects are often included with some talk therapy. Ages 3 and up.
Young adults face the daunting task of launching into independence. Not to mention, the 90's generation and forward have grown up online, with constant comparisons and social pressures. Therapy helps relieve pains of depression, anxiety, and self-image. My goal with young adults is to identify strengths, define boundaries, gain confidence, and move towards a more authentic and fulfilling life.
